The Carpenter's Plan
Why is a program of estate planning so critical for churches today?
Researchers tell us that there has never been such a time as there is right now. There has never been such a period in the history of the United States when such a large transfer of wealth has occurred. Some estimates are that up to $12 trillion will transfer from one generation to the next in the next 10-15 years. This estimate is coupled with the fact that, nationwide, churches receive 65-70 % of their income from individuals who are over 65. Sadly, the inference is that while our churches are largely dependent on the generosity of its senior members, this generation is expected to pass incredible wealth to beneficiaries over the next decade or so. Without a focused effort to assist all Christians, especially those in retirement years, many of these generous people will not include the church and cherished ministries that they have faithfully supported for many years. With the assistance of the services of The Carpenter's Plan, this dilemma can be changed to a great opportunity for the entire Christian community.
Why is it important to work with supporters of churches?
After working with churches across the country, The Carpenter's Plan has made a startling discovery. It has come to the conclusion that only about 1 or 2 out of every 100 Christians currently include any church or church ministry in their estate plans. However, after The Carpenter's Plan Financial Priorities program has been offered to churches, about 89% of the participants have decided to include the church or some favored church ministry in their estate plans. Why such a dramatic change? The response of most individuals has been that before the biblical teaching provided by this program, "I had just never thought about it!" During the training provided in this highly effective program, most Christians realize that they certainly would like to assure that their estate continues to support those ministries they love, even after they are gone.
Isn't this a program just for churches with a lot of wealthy members?
Members of all economic backgrounds have equally been receptive the to the biblical truths taught by The Carpenter's Plan. It is true that many wealthy members who do not address this issue will needlessly allow millions of dollars of their estate value be absorbed by taxes. However, Christians with modest estates also consistently recognize the need to include the church or its ministries in their estate plan, even if estate tax is not an issue for them. After giving thought to the biblical principles presented, most Christians - about 89% - have determined that they would like to express the same values with the estate they pass on as they have with that estate as they have built it over a lifetime.
